I have strange acne on my face for about the last 2 weeks. It's very light bumps that are everywhere as opposed to large pimples. You can see it bad if the sun shines on it, but it's not red, just rashy. Any idea what to do about it?
I feel like I look terrible and I'm concerned it's going to get worse. If you are taking Lamictal and break out with a rash, call your neurologist ASAP, especially if you have just recently begun taking it.
I take Lamictal, Keppra and Clonazepam. I was hesitant to take Lamictal as my neurologist told me that it can cause a skin rash which is potentially fatal if not caught in time. I did not have any skin reaction, and Lamictal has worked really well for me in conjunction with my other medications. However, my neurologist told me to call him right away if I had any rash or skin reactions especially in the first two weeks of taking Lamictal.
It usually appears around the neck, chest area first. Apparently, the reaction can cause your skin to fall off. Be sure and contact your neurologist and not a regular MD as they are not as aware of the side effects of many seizure drugs. I am not trying to scare you, but I heard of a situation where a woman called her regular MD when she had this reaction, and the MD was not aware of the potentially fatal nature of the side effect.
By the time she got to the hospital, it was too late. Your reaction may not be at all related, but why take the chance? Call your neurologist just to be sure. I was on Dilantin as a kid and do not remember having any problems with acne, etc.
Best wishes! I agree with Karen. Lamictal can cause some adverse effects which presents itself in the form of a rash. I'd contact your neurologist immediately. It sounds like a rash, you should see your neurologist about this and he may refer you to a dermatologist.
Lamictal causes some ppl to get rashes, or just in general sensitive skin. I developed bad acne on lamictal. I ended up going on accutane as a last resort! I'm never taken Lamictal however Dilantin I have alot of experience with. Dilantin worked for me at first however after my body got used to it, it was nothing more than just a pill I was taking.
Dilantin has a side effect that eats away at the roots of your teeth. I took it for over 10 years and while Dental visits and proper teeth care can help, I now have dentures because of the length of time I was on it. A lot of people are looking for quick home remedies for acne. Unfortunately you need to really consult your dermatologist to know what your skin type first in order to get the right remedy for your skin.
Some things would work maybe 30 to 60 days then stop and most made it ten times worse. But this is the only med that has worked for me without a combo med and without gaining weight.
I still hate it Lamictal was definitely the culprit behind my adult acne. Stay up to date with the latest epilepsy news and stories from the community. Alcohol as a Seizure Trigger. Absence Seizures.
